Oyo Pillars of Sports, Obideyi Gives Reasons Why He Honours 3SC Legends.
Founder and Chairman of the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation, Mr. Temitope Ademola Obideyi, has explained the motivation behind his initiative to honour legendary players of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), saying their immense contributions to the club and Nigerian football deserve lasting recognition.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with OyoSportsNews, Obideyi said the initiative was born out of a deep conviction that the sacrifices and achievements of the club's former stars should never be forgotten. According to him, the legends of the Oluyole Warriors brought pride, excitement, and unforgettable memories to countless supporters, particularly during the club's glorious years in the 1970s and 1980s when Shooting Stars established itself as a dominant force in Nigerian and African football.
He noted that many of the club's retired players dedicated the best years of their lives to building the enviable legacy that Shooting Stars enjoys today, stressing that it is only fitting for the present generation to honour those who laid the foundation for the club's success.
Obideyi explained that the initiative is also aimed at restoring dignity and hope to retired footballers who may feel overlooked despite their invaluable service to the game. He believes that celebrating sporting heroes while they are alive not only acknowledges their sacrifices but also reminds society of the importance of preserving its sporting heritage.
Beyond football, Obideyi reiterated that the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation is committed to the overall development of sports in Oyo State. He revealed that while football remains a major focus, the Foundation has plans to extend similar interventions and developmental programmes to other sporting disciplines in the near future.
He further emphasized that retired athletes remain valuable assets whose wealth of experience, technical knowledge, and leadership can significantly contribute to the growth of sports in the state. According to him, creating opportunities for them to engage with younger generations will help preserve the culture of excellence while inspiring future champions.
"Our legends deserve more than applause; they deserve honour, respect, and appreciation while they are still with us," Obideyi said. "They inspired generations of football lovers and contributed immensely to the success of Shooting Stars, Oyo State, and Nigerian football. Through this initiative, we want to celebrate their legacy, rekindle their sense of belonging, and ensure that their remarkable contributions are never forgotten."
The Foundation recently received the approval of the management of Shooting Stars Sports Club to honour two former players during selected Nigeria Premier Football League home matches, where they will be presented with customised club jerseys, cash awards, and commemorative gifts in recognition of their outstanding service to the Oluyole Warriors.
