NFCA LAUDS NPFL BOARD AND NFF FOR STRUCTURAL STABILITY AND COMPETITIVE GROWTH IN 2025/26 SEASON
The Nigeria Football Coaches Association has extends its strong commendation to the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League, under the leadership of Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, and by extension the Nigeria Football Federation for its effective supervisory role, following the successful organization of the league up to Matchday 35 of the 2025/26 season.
With just three matches remaining and no outstanding fixtures, the current campaign stands as a clear reflection of administrative progress and structural discipline. The ability of the NPFL board to maintain a consistent and credible league calendar, aligned with continental scheduling frameworks, marks a significant departure from previous disruptions and reinforces the league’s growing professionalism.
Despite the inherent challenges within the football ecosystem, the NPFL board has demonstrated commendable leadership in managing sensitive situations that could have impacted the integrity of the competition. Their capacity to respond proactively and maintain stability has been central to the smooth flow of the season.
The NFCA particularly acknowledges the collaborative role of the NFF in providing oversight and driving key developmental initiatives across critical stakeholders. The continued emphasis on improving the capacity of coaches and enhancing referees’ welfare and performance standards is yielding visible results in the overall quality and efficiency of the league.
On the pitch, the competitiveness of the league has reached an encouraging level. With three matches remaining, neither the title race nor the relegation battle has been decided, underlining a balanced and highly contested competition. The rise in away victories, the emergence of younger players making meaningful contributions, and a more competitive race among top goal scorers all point to a league that is evolving both technically and tactically.
These developments are not incidental but reflect deliberate efforts in governance, planning, and stakeholder engagement. The improved coordination of matchday logistics and growing confidence in officiating further reinforce the progress being made.
As a key technical body within Nigerian football, the NFCA hereby throws its full weight behind the NPFL board and acknowledges the supportive role of the NFF in achieving these milestones. This synergy between administration and technical stakeholders is essential for sustained growth.
While these gains are commendable, the NFCA encourages continued focus on strategic areas such as strict club infrastructure compliance, expansion of television and broadcast coverage, integration of a centralized football data system, and the effective utilization of end-of-season technical reports to guide future improvements.
The NFCA remains confident that with sustained commitment, the NPFL will continue to close the gap with leading leagues globally while strengthening its position within African football.
Signed:
President, NFCA
