AFCON 2026: AGU-EJIDIKE CONGRATULATES SUPER EAGLES ON BRONZE MEDAL TRIUMPH, SEES PROMISE OF A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their hard-fought AFCON bronze medal victory, following the team’s 4–2 penalty shootout win over the Pharaohs of Egypt on Saturday.

Chief Agu-Ejidike described the performance of the Super Eagles at the tournament as a triumph of belief, resilience and collective discipline, noting that the team rose above modest expectations to restore national pride and confidence in Nigerian football.

“This Super Eagles team reminded us that football is not only about reputation, but about character,” Chief Agu-Ejidike said. “Against all odds, the players stood tall, stayed united, and delivered when it mattered most. Winning the bronze medal is not a consolation prize; it is proof of growth, grit, and genuine progress. The team overcame the ghost of the misses in the penalty shootout against the host last Wednesday, by dispatching the Pharaohs, by 4-2, the same margin by which they lost the semi final.”

The renowned sports philanthropist commended the players, technical crew, and team officials for their composure under pressure, particularly their mental strength in decisive moments during the knockout stages of the tournament.

According to him, the Eagles’ campaign has reignited belief in the future of Nigerian football, especially with the emergence of young, hungry talents who showed tactical maturity and unwavering commitment to the national cause.

“What we saw at this AFCON is the foundation of a brighter tomorrow,” he added. “This team has shown promise, structure, and hunger. If properly nurtured, supported, and protected from distractions, Nigeria is firmly back on the path to continental and global relevance.”
Chief Agu-Ejidike urged the players to build on this momentum, warning against complacency while encouraging continuity, long-term planning, and institutional support from football authorities and stakeholders.

“Momentum is fragile—guard it jealously,” he advised. “Let this bronze medal be the launchpad, not the destination. Nigerians are proud of you, and we expect even greater heights in the days ahead.”

He reaffirmed his unwavering support for Nigerian sports development and called on all stakeholders to rally behind the Super Eagles as they prepare for future continental and global engagements.
“Nigeria believes again. Well done, Super Eagles.”
