2025/2026 NNL League Opener : Aluo impressed with fans attendance in Lafia


Chairman of Nigeria National League ( NNL), Mr. George Aluo says he's highly impressed with the massive turnout of fans at the Lafia City Stadium for the opening match of the new season.


The 2025/2026 season of the second tier league officially kicked off Saturday, November, 8, 2025 at the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa State with home team Basira Fc locking horns with Mighty Jets of Jos in the Conference C of the League.

Aluo noted that the large number of fans who trooped to the stadium to cheer their team in the North Central derby is an indication that the league has quality; saying that the fans deserves commendation.

"I'm highly impressed with the large turnout of fans who came to cheer their team to victory in the opening match and I am looking forward to see such large turnout of fans in other league venues 

"It's equally important that I thank Lafia fans for coming out en mass to support  their team and I urge them to keep the flag flying", Aluo said

Meanwhile, the match which was watched by the Nasarawa State Governor, His Excellency , Engr. Abdullahi Sule and some members  of his executive,  saw Basira Fc beat Mighty Jets by 3-1.
At the end of the match, players of the winning team got their locker bonus of N,56, 000 courtesy of NNL partners, Betpawa

Shooting Stars declare two players AWOL

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, have declared two of their players Victor Ehibe and Abubakar Adeyemi  absent without official leave (AWOL). A statement by the club's Media Officer, Tosin Omojola, explained that the duo  have suddenly absconded from the team without any official notice. "We wish to inform the public of the sudden disappearance of two of  our players, Victor Ehibe and Abubakar Adeyemi. "While Abubakar Adeyemi has not shown up for training for sometime, Victor  Ehibe recently left the club's camp, packing all his belongings without any official notice," said the 3SC spokesman in the statement. Furthermore, the release  stated that the two players have running contracts with the Oluyole Warriors, hence, they have no right to leave without officially informing the club of their whereabouts. Alleged Poor Officiating; Kano Pillars/3SC Match Officials Suspended, Nasarawa/Rangers Referee

Three referees in Nigeria have been sanctioned for offences related to  improper handling of matches assigned to them.  In week 8 matches of the NPFL, three of the referees who handled two different matches have been suspended indefinitely by the NFF Referees Committee.  While Mohammed B Tuta of Adamawa and Benue's Ben Japhet, Referee and Assistant Referee 1, respectively of the Kano Pillars vs Shooting Stars game were punished for what the NFF Referees Committee accused them of "acting in manners outside the provisions of the laws of the game and brings the game into disrepute", the letter signed by the  Committee secretary, Ameenu Mohammed indicated that the Nassarawa against Rangers referee, Ikechukwu Taiwo of Rivers State was sanctioned for awarding "unjustified penalty" awarded. The three referees were suspended indefinitely.
