TUNDE AJIBIKE ELECTED BOARD MEMBER OF THE CYCLING FEDERATION OF NIGERIA.

The duo of ‘Tunde AJIBIKE and Tawakat Yekeen, both of Oyo State origin, were sworn in as board members of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria during the inaugural ceremony organized by the National Sports Commission in the Conference Room of the Commission on Monday, 15th September 2025.

This followed the keenly contested election held at the Gymnasium Hall of the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abuja. Mr. Tunde Ajibike was elected as the Southwest Zonal Representative, while the 24-year-old graduate of Ibadan Polytechnic and gold medalist Tawakat Yekeen emerged as the Athlete Representative.

Immediately after inauguration, the new board swung into action by establishing 11 commissions to ensure the adequate development of cycling and facilitate effective delivery of services.

The inaugural meeting, led by the President Engineer Giadomenico Masari, later co-opted four members to support the federation in this direction.

They are Brigadier General Al-Amon, Ado Ibrahim, Dr. Andrew Etseto Waghan, Dr. Sam Ogbondeminu, Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange, and Barrister John Fakado.

The Para Commission has Mr. Babatunde Ajibike as its chairman. While inaugurating the board, the chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Sheu Dikko, commended the CFN election for being free, fair, and credible, adding that they need to ensure that they develop the sport from the grassroots level in order to discover talents from the hinterland instead of relying on foreign-based athletes to represent the country in international competitions.

Mallam Sheu Dikko stated further that, “There is a need to constantly organize tournaments to expose athletes to competition in order to equip them for national and international competitions. Not only this, there is a need to explore the possibility of canvassing for moral and financial support from well-meaning individuals to procure equipment.”
