Consolidating on Grassroot Development in Nigeria as Water FC Boss,MK Visits NOC President ,Habu Gumel
The Chief Executive Officer of Water FC, Makanjuola Nureni, popularly known as MK, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Alhaji Habu Gumel, at his office in Abuja.
The visit comes shortly after MK was named one of the 100 Most Influential Individuals in Nigeria at the 2025 edition of the Progressive Awards held in Abuja. Expressing deep appreciation, MK commended Alhaji Gumel’s exemplary leadership within the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and prayed for divine guidance and continued strength for the sports administrator.
In his remarks, Alhaji Gumel, a veteran sports administrator and honorary member of the IOC, praised MK for his unwavering commitment to youth development through football. He urged the Water FC boss to remain steadfast in his mission to nurture talent at the grassroots level.
MK’s journey in football began as a personal passion and has since evolved into a national project to discover and develop young talents in underserved communities across Nigeria. Under his leadership, Water FC has transformed into a formidable hub for youth football, equipped with modern training infrastructure, elite coaching staff, and an extensive scouting network. The club has produced players who have represented Nigeria at major international tournaments, including the U-17 and U-20 World Cups.
Alhaji Habu Gumel, born April 1, 1949, in Gumel, Jigawa State, has served in various capacities in both national and international sports administration. As the current NOC President and an honorary IOC member, he remains a central figure in shaping Nigeria’s Olympic movement.
The meeting between MK and Alhaji Gumel underscores a shared vision for the future of sports in Nigeria, with particular focus on talent discovery, development, and international representation.
