Kanu Nwankwo U19 Tournament: Super Eagles/Enyimba Legends Battle National SWAN in Curtain Raiser
All is now set for the grand finale of Kanu Nwankwo U19 Football tournament as the Board of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, ably led by its Chairman, who doubles as two-time African Footballer of the Year, Ambassador Kanu Nwankwo, will lead other ex Super Eagles players against members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN football team in Aba Township Stadium on Thursday.
Sporting Director of People's Elephants and ex International, Ifeanyi Ekwueme disclosed this on Monday after having a fruitful discussion with the President and General Secretary of the body, Benjamin Isaiah and Ikenna Okonkwo ,the arrangement that was facilitated by Ibadan based Sports journalist, Sunday Agunbiade popularly known as Mr VAR
The Chairman of the 9th time league champions, King Kanu noted that despite series of challenges faced by media guys, they still performed brilliantly well and gave the Nigeria Premier Football League under Gbenga Elegbeleye and Davidson Owumi optimal visibility it deserves. Papilo, while emphasizing crucial roles played by journalists in ensuring the success of the league, he acknowledged their support saying without media support, the league would not thrive an inch
The Atalanta 96 Gold medalist however assured media professionals who are forthright in their reportage to keep the flag flying while encouraging them to further beam their searchlight on grey areas that will help improve the brand of the 7th ranked African best league
"Nigeria journalists are highly professional and in spite of challenges facing the nation, they have never compromised. I think they should continue highlighting areas that require improvement in the league". Papilo pleaded.
Speaking further, the Sporting Director of Enyimba and retired Nigerian Super Eagles attacking midfielder, highlighted the purpose of having SWAN National team and the full compliment of the number one Sports Writer in Nigeria, Benjamin Isaiah to participate in the novelty match before the final match in Aba. "I look forward to receiving the full compliment of number one Sports Writer in Nigeria in Aba and the SWAN National football team . I have heard about their series of friendly matches and I am deeply impressed. We have invited them to play against Ex Internationals and Enyimba legends to test the texture of their strengths". Ekweme hinted.
Being one of the 2024/2025 CAF Confederation cup flag bearers announced that a curtain raiser match will take place between National SWAN and Enyimba legends/retired Super Eagles players at 1 pm on Thursday, June 4th, at the Aba stadium. This exciting event will feature notable retired Super Eagles players and coaches, making it a thrilling precursor to the tournament's final match.
Some of the legendary Super Eagles players expected to attend the event include: Victor Ikpeba, Samson Siasia, Austin Eguavoen, Uche Okechukwu, Obinna Nwaneri, Biffo, Taribo West, Jonathan Akpobori, Victor Agali, and Emmanuel Olisedebe, among others.
This gathering of football greats promises to be an exciting aspect of the tournament, celebrating Nigeria's rich football history and talent.
The SWAN Football team ably led by Andy Randa(though he would not be available due to other engagement), but Tunde Liadi and other lieutenants leaving very closed to the state will do the magic. Members of fourth realm of Estate are expected to name their killer squad before Thursday
