Naija League Players Corner: Sports World Platform Shifts Attention to NPFL Leading Goal King, Sikiru Alimi

Nigerian leading WhatsApp Sports group, Sports World Platform on Monday deemed its searchlights on the Nigeria Premier Football League prolific goal poacher, Sikiru Adewale Alimi of Remo Stars. 

His video, voice notes and actions pictures were uploaded and analyzed by the host, Sunday Agunbiade popularly known as Mr VAR. 

How Sikiru Alimi started his footballing career and where he started with the number of goals scored in each club were critically ex rayed and his uncommon attributes were poignantly discussed on the platform.

A very good day to everyone. I llike to welcome you all to this week edition of Naija League Player's Corner. 

First of all, big congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they are making us proud in the ongoing 34th edition of African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast zooming to the Semi Final of the tournament. They are billed to lock on with South Africa on Wednesday 

 This is a program designed for our league players aims at increasing their marketability and command desired respect they have lost in recent years.

Sad to know that our NPFL, NWFL ,NNL are not been adequately represented at the various national teams as we used to have in 80s, 90s.

His name is Sikiru Adewale Alimi

My name is Sunday Agunbiade  popularly known as (Mr VAR)

How did Sikiru Alimi start his footballing career?

He started playing really young from the streets of Lagos,Ajegunle precisely at Navy barrack .

Fortunately, he signed for Union Bank FC and they played in the NLO .

He later moved to First bank FC where they played in the NNL in Lagos

These are the previous clubs Sikiru Alimi has played for and the number of goals for each club:

Warri wolves- 12 goals 

Sunshine - 12 goals

Lobi Stars - 14 goals

Stade Tunisien - 1 goal

MAS - 3goals 

3Sc - 1 goal

REMO Stars - 19 goals.

Presently, he is on 11goals in 2023/2024 season.

Attributes of Sikiru Adewale Alimi

Sikiru Adewale Alimi is a striker with the following attributes 

1) Confidence without arrogance

When a player has Self-belief or confidence, such player will go far as it very critical in a striker. 

Let's check David Beckam and Suarez

Sir Alex Ferguson said in his book that David Beckham had the biggest self-belief or any player. Even when he had a bad game he still thought he'd played beautifully.

Negative self-talk is the most destructive thing a striker can do. I have watched many a player abuse themselves only to see their performance worsen. It is very, very difficult to pull yourself up when you're the one beating yourself up. I love watching Luiz Suares; even when he misses a sitter he will often come away with a broad smile, only to come back with something brilliant in the next five minutes.

Good control or /touch

The ability to control a football,or 'touch', is what distinguishes Sikiru Alimi among the rest.

This is the most important skill for a striker to possess. Control of the football in a tight situation is often the difference between getting an opportunity to score a goal or not even having the chance. There are lots of touch points that must be practiced.

Two of the players most renowned for their touch were Zinedine Zidane and Dimitar Babatof

Positioning

When we are talking about positioning, Sikiru Alimi is the master piece 

Knowing where to place yourself on the field and having an awareness of space is critical for strikers. While width is a striker's friend, mobility runs is a striker's best-attacking weapon. Playing with defenders i.e. constantly moving between them, moving between the lines and operating in the channels can switch defenders and confuse them as to who is supposed to be making you.

Shot Accuracy

Poignant delivery in placing shot gives Sikiru Alimi edge over others. More reason he's the one leading the goal chat.

Shot accuracy is a combination of technique and deliberate practice. Concentrated, focused, deliberate practice Consistently undertaken. There is no quick fix with this one. 

This is critical, and the results can be seen in the goal scoring prowesd in the NPFL

Speed

Weapon of goal execution is proportional to Speed and Alimi possesses this

Speed is one of the best weapons of a striker, making it a key trait. It is not just the ability to run fast but the combination of the following speed elements:

Ability to run fast

Explosive speed – the ability to get up to maximum

 speed quickly.

The speed of feet - the ability to move one’s feet fast during the execution of moves.

The speed of thought – Perception,Decision,Execution (PDE- the ability to quickly perceive the situation and then quickly make a decision and execute it).

Explosive fast Mobility runs – which is a combination of some of the above and an understanding of when and where to make the run.
