By : Sunday Agunbiade (Mr VAR)
Nigerian coaches are passing through a lot in giving their best to the jobs at various clubsides. The US based Nigerian born coach Usman Abdullahi Biffo who gave insights on what operated in the United States of America compared to the realities in Nigeria . He said the Americans want coaches to build their athletes while Nigerians want instant results. What a contrasting climes!
The newly engaged BFUT Educator in Columbia, and UEFA B License ,Coach Biffo was a Super Guest on the Nigerian leading WhatsApp groups, Sports World Platform on Saturday anchored by Sunday Agunbiade popularly known as Mr VAR and Wale Oye from Lagos State.
Biffo noted that sacking and recruiting of players is another form of embezzlement strategies in Nigerian league and it has affected the prospects of some promising players in progressing with their career
The former Abia Warriors gaffer said: "I think most Nigerian administrators don't believe in building, but they want instant results. Coaches don't have time as they given one or two year contract. This is why some coaches go for ready made players they have worked with to get them quick results. A lot of people will notice that most coaches bring experienced players to their clubs as they believe they can get the job done. This is not so in US as they like to see how you are impacting the players, how the players are responding to your training programmes. They will even come to your training for proper assessment of players coaches integrating prowess".
"Also, some club administrators see this as a way of making money. I was in a club and that time, we were second on the log, yet the management asked us to sack 15 players but we said no as everyone was doing well. We told them point black that no players is going out or coming in as the boys were doing well"
"The way coaches get the job and short time giving to the coach to get instant results make it difficult for coach to go to grassroots or academy to inject fresh talents. No coach wants to leave the job and that is why it's very difficult to recruit players from academy or youth teams in Nigeria. This is not so in America, they are interested in exciting young talents who will be a cash cow for them in the future .As for me, I love bringing players from academy as they always turn out to be the best but the environment in Nigeria does not give room to that ".
