Reactions have started pouring in by Sports loving Nigerians, particularly those in diaspora. One of the prominent figours among them is the Head Coach,FC Witikon, Switzerland, Adedeji Adeyemi Anthony who was of the opinion that Nigeria technically consolidated on counter attack to neutralize the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday (yesterday).
The former Stationery Stores forward stated this while speaking with Varsportnow.blogspot shortly after Nigeria pip the host, Ivory Coast in the second match of Group A preliminary stage.
Adeyemi noted that Super Eagles victory against the 34th edition of AFCON hosts, Cote D’Ivoire was overtly more of counterparts attack playing tactics which appeared too difficult for the Ivorians to curtail.
While commending the compactness and ruggedness of the team in absorbing the pressure of the 1992 AFCON winners. the high rising Swiss based coach said:
“First and foremost, I want to congratulate Super Eagles’ coaching crew, our footballers and all patriotic Nigerians on the hard-fought victory yesterday over Ivorians. It was not easy beating the hosts in their own backyard.
"I think my general assessment is that Super Eagles have been doing fantastically well but unfortunately they could not take their chances but I believe they will get it right as the competition progresses"
He continued; "In the frontline, I see a lot of individual play as everybody wants to see their names on scorer sheet. We were more defensively minded but sometimes it's good to play ugly football and get your results than playing exciting football without results"
"I have seen many Nigerians complained about the manner we played yesterday, what matters most is getting the maximum points”
The UEFA Licence B handler however assured Nigerians that the 3 times AFCON champions, Nigeria would neutralize the Guinea Bissau in the last match of the preliminary stage on Monday.
“ The last match is going to be an interesting game but I assure you that Super Eagles will beat Guinea Bissau in our last match and top our group”. Coach Adedeji Adeyemi concluded
Super Eagles of Nigeria edged hosts Cote D’Ivoire by a lone goal courtesy of Troost Ekong’s second half penalty.
