The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) may not postpone upcoming fixtures in the ongoing 2023/2024 season despite Nigeria's participation at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which kicks off on January 13 in Cote d'Ivoire.

According to a top official of the NPFL who spoke on condition of anonymity in a telephone  chat with Sports Yarn Class (SYC) on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the league is not contemplating or considering a shift  in the season to a later date for now because it has nothing to do with the continental showpiece.

"What has the league got to do with the tournament? How many of our local players in the league are going to the AFCON?

"There was even a time some years ago when the league was not shifted because of a continental competition even when league players were involved", he said.

This development will see Matchday 17 games taking place on January 6 and 7.

In one of the matches, Rangers International will be guests to Bendel Insurance on Saturday, January 6.

The Super Eagles will face Mozambique in their opening group game on January 15.
